Aju Varghese on 'Love Under Construction': Pappettan has got a bit of 'Thantha Vibe' in him - The Times of India
Aju Varghese is all set to complete his hat-trick! The actor is eagerly anticipating the release of his third
Malayalam web series
. After his standout performances as the police officer Manoj in '
Kerala Crime Files
' and the quirky Balachandran in '
Perilloor Premier League
', Aju will next be seen as Pappettan (Padmarajan) in the Neeraj Madhav and
Gouri Kishan
starrer '
Love Under Construction
'. Ahead of the premiere, we catch up with the actor for an exclusive chat.
What can we expect from 'Love Under Construction'?
It's a family drama that offers an engaging, relatable, and lighthearted viewing experience. The story follows the lives of two young individuals from different families, each with their own unique perspectives and dreams.
How about Pappettan?
Pappettan also serves as a representation of society, holding strong opinions against the styles and attitudes of the newer generation. As the lingo goes, he has a bit of that 'Thantha Vibe' (Boomer). While he might come across as somewhat toxic at first, his character undergoes significant changes throughout the series, making his journey an interesting one to watch.
Among Manoj, Balachandran, and now Pappettan, which character is your favorite?
Each of these characters is unique in their own way. Playing a police officer in Kerala Crime Files was a fantastic experience, and Balachandran is one of those roles I actually requested from the makers. Pappettan is definitely different from both, especially when it comes to his background, lifestyle, and intelligence. But if I had to pick a favorite, no matter how many roles I take on, it will always be Kuttu from '
Malarvadi Arts Club
'. That's where it all began, and that character will always hold a special place for me.
The web series industry in Malayalam is still growing. What made you take up projects one after another?
Whether it's a movie or a casual online wish video, every time I'm in front of the camera, I treat it as acting. I'm an actor, and my passion is acting— the platform doesn't matter to me. OTT platforms are emerging as a new pillar in the entertainment industry, and a whole new audience is growing along with it. I'm glad to be reaching them. There's also rapid growth in Malayalam web series, as people are looking for quality entertainment to unwind and relax. Regardless of the platform, good content will always find its audience.
