While Aimee Lou Wood felt panicked about accidentally leaking The White Lotus season 3 secrets in advance, there's one fan theory that she and her costars never took seriously. But the actor tells Entertainment Weekly that the rumor still took on a life of its own.
When Emmy contender Wood joined Tramell Tillman (Severance), Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid's Tale), Marisa Abela (Industry), Antony Starr (The Boys), and Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters) for EW's Awardist Drama Actors Roundtable, she shared the "weirdest" fan theory about who was responsible for the season 3 deaths.
"The weirdest one for us was that people thought that a monkey got ahold of the gun and did the shootout," Wood says in the video above. "Because they were like, 'Well, why would they keep cutting to the monkeys in the trees?' People were really [like], 'Oh, of course. [Creator] Mike [White]'s a genius.' Honestly!"
As the rest of the actors laugh, Wood reveals one of her costars tried to squash that theory because it was so ridiculous.
"I think Michelle Monaghan just couldn't be bothered with that rumor," Wood says. "So she was like, 'That is absolutely not what happened. That's just not [it].'"
The White Lotus season 3 followed a new cast of characters at a Thailand resort. Wood starred as hopeless romantic Chelsea, who was on vacation with her older, misanthropic boyfriend Rick (Walton Goggins). The couple died in the finale when Rick couldn't let his revenge plans go, leading to a tragic ending for them both.

"We had a fake ending on the call sheet," Wood reveals. "If we left our call sheet somewhere, and someone then leaked the ending, so we didn't have the real ending. There was a different person's death."
While Wood wouldn't reveal who was the alternate ending death, she did admit she fell for the trick. "And then I started to think, 'But what if Mike is actually filming both?'" she says. "And there was a little part of me when I was watching the last episode that was like, 'What if that was the real ending?'"
