Ahmed Suale's murder suspect has never been on the run - Lawyer
Kofi Essel, legal counsel for Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former associate of the late investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, has dismissed allegations that his client was evading authorities.
Koranteng has been charged with murder in connection with Suale’s death. Case details suggest he was allegedly near Suale’s residence in Madina before and at the time of the shooting.
Reports further indicate that he left Madina for his home in Amasaman around 11 p.m. that night.
Authorities claim Koranteng ignored police invitations and later traveled to the United Kingdom in 2019. However, after police surveillance, he was arrested upon his return to Ghana on March 15, 2025.
Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Essel refuted these claims, insisting that Koranteng has remained in Ghana and actively engaged in investigative work for years.
“He’s been in this country not just 2025. He’s been doing undercover investigations, and he has published some, shown some on TV and all that, published and even caused people to be arrested and all that—people who are selling very bad unwholesome foods and unwholesome drugs,” Essel stated.
He further rejected claims that Koranteng was unreachable, asserting, “He’s been in this country doing all these undercover investigations. So he’s not been on the run. He’s been in the country for years. So if they are saying they’ve been trying to reach him and he doesn’t come and all that, I don’t know where it lies.”
