Ahmed Suale murder: Suspect is a former Tiger Eye colleague - Prosecution
Prosecutors claim that Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former member of Tiger Eye PI, played a direct role in Suale’s death by causing unlawful harm.
According to the prosecution, the accused and the deceased were employees of Tiger Eye P.I., the investigative firm led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Case details indicate that Koranteng was allegedly seen near Suale’s residence in Madina shortly before and during the time of the fatal shooting, which occurred on January 16, 2019, by two unidentified men on motorbikes.
According to investigators, Koranteng left the Madina area for his home in Amasaman around 11 p.m. on the night of the murder.
Authorities also claim he repeatedly ignored police invitations for questioning and fled the country to the United Kingdom in 2019, shortly after the incident.
However, after years of surveillance and intelligence gathering, Koranteng was arrested upon his return to Ghana on March 15, 2025.
He was arraigned before the Madina District Court on Wednesday, where he was remanded into custody.
The case has been adjourned to April 1, 2025, for further proceedings.
Investigators further suggest that Suale had identified Koranteng as the person who allegedly leaked his photographs to politician Kennedy Agyapong, several months before the fatal shooting.
But Koranteng has strongly denied the claim.
Reacting to the latest development, Sulemana Issifu, spokesperson for investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, described the murder charge as “long overdue”, emphasising that Tiger Eye PI had always believed in the capacity of the Ghana Police Service to bring justice for the late Ahmed Suale.
In an interview, Issifu expressed cautious optimism, stating that the latest action by authorities represents a crucial step after years of inaction.
“We’ve waited for years, and this development is a strong signal that justice might finally be on the horizon,” he said. “Tiger Eye PI has always trusted in the ability of law enforcement to pursue the truth and deliver justice.”
The spokesperson further revealed that Daniel Koranteng was dismissed from Tiger Eye PI in 2017 after being found to have shared confidential photographs with Kennedy Agyapong, an act that the organisation regarded as a serious breach of internal ethics and trust.
Despite his dismissal, Issifu noted that Koranteng continued maintaining ties with Suale, frequently visiting his residence and staying in contact.
He also pointed to a video in which Koranteng was allegedly seen participating in a shoot with Kennedy Agyapong in Dubai, footage that Tiger Eye PI believes reinforces the claim that Koranteng was responsible for leaking Suale’s images to the politician.
“There is a clear and disturbing trail; the connection between Koranteng and the leak is not just speculative; it is supported by real evidence, including this video,” Issifu stated.
He concluded by stressing that the pursuit of justice for Ahmed Suale is not only about accountability for one man’s murder but also about defending the safety and freedom of investigative journalists across the country.
“We are hopeful that justice will be served, not only for Ahmed but to send a powerful message that journalists cannot be hunted or silenced with impunity,” he added.
Meanwhile, Issifu also criticised the role of Kennedy Agyapong in the events leading to Suale’s murder.
He accused the MP of not only displaying Suale’s photographs on national television but also disclosing his residential location and threatening to reveal vehicle registration details associated with the journalist.
“In any serious jurisdiction, one would have expected that Kennedy Agyapong would have faced legal consequences for such actions,” Issifu said.
“He didn’t just show Ahmed’s photos; he publicly called for retribution. Shortly after, Ahmed was murdered. At the very least, he should have been charged with aiding, abetting, conspiracy, or threats of harm. Even if not murder, these are still serious offences,” he told TV3.
