African, Caribbean leaders to converge in Abuja for Afreximbank's 32nd annual meetings
The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) will host its 32nd Annual Meetings (AAM2025) in Abuja, Nigeria, from June 25 to 27, 2025, convening an influential mix of African, Caribbean, and global leaders for a high-level dialogue on trade, investment, and innovation.
Themed “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,” the gathering is expected to serve as a critical platform for shaping Africa’s economic direction amid growing global uncertainties.
This year’s event will feature a wide array of prominent figures, including Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Ambassador Albert Muchanga, African Union Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining.
They will be joined by an esteemed assembly of heads of state, prime ministers, central bank governors, ministers, business executives, scholars, and investors from across Africa, the Caribbean (CARICOM), and beyond.
Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, described AAM2025 as a timely and transformative event. Reflecting on the significance of this year’s return to the continent following the 31st edition in The Bahamas, he highlighted the meeting’s focus on translating resilience into action.
“AAM2025 comes at a pivotal time for Africa. As the continent confronts global uncertainties, it is doing so with renewed resolve. These meetings are about catalysing practical action, building stronger institutions, strengthening trade integration, and unlocking the full potential of African innovation.”
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Nigerian government for their support.
The programme will feature globally renowned thinkers and industry leaders, including Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, and Dr. Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore.
Africa’s foremost business figures will also take the stage, including Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, and Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings. Other confirmed speakers include Professor Ghulam Mufti of King’s College London and former Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, among several other influential figures.
AAM2025 is expected to generate significant economic value, with anticipated outcomes including trade and investment mobilisation, enhanced policy frameworks, and strengthened South-South cooperation.
The meetings are poised to facilitate major deals and partnerships, including Memoranda of Understanding and new public-private initiatives aimed at unlocking funding for key sectors over the next decade.
In addition to trade and investment discussions, the meetings will focus on advancing the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), improving cross-border payment systems, enhancing Africa–CARICOM economic relations through expanded trade, tourism and joint ventures, and increasing private sector participation in regional policy reforms. These conversations aim to reduce transaction costs, upgrade trade infrastructure, and deepen regional integration.
AAM2025 is expected to attract thousands of participants and international media representatives from more than 80 countries. With thought leaders, innovators, and policymakers under one roof, the meetings will not only shape Africa’s development trajectory but also influence global perceptions of the continent’s economic potential.
New initiatives will also be unveiled, reinforcing the role of AAM2025 as a catalyst for inclusive growth, innovation, and long-term transformation.
