The Committee led by its chairman; Hon. Vincent Asamoah interacted with Management of State Housing Company.

The Managing Director of State Housing Company, Mr. John Bawa, said the Company has been allocated 40 acers of land for Development and their plan is to deliver approximately 1,600 housing units, consisting of 2 and 3 bedrooms.

However, due to lack of funding, work is less than 20% complete, and that has led to people using the site as a waste disposal site. “More funding is now needed to clear the waste from the land so building can proceed” he added.

Another challenge faced is the poor road network, which was supposed to be fixed by the government.

Mr. Bawa added that some of the houses had been purchased already but because the project has not been completed, they are requesting for a refund.

The Committee then proceeded to inspect Surge Homes at Amrahia, another project assigned to the SHC Compared to Pokuase affordable homes.

Surge Housing Company has relatively better finished infrastructure. Out of the project’s 196 units, 154 are about 80% complete, with about 100 of them in the process of being sold. The project is a gated estate consisting of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, with the starting price being GHC950,000.

This project is also faced with bad road system and inadequate funding. They also had issues with the land acquisition, which halted progress of work.

The Committee later visited Executive Homes at Adenta. The project commenced about 15 years ago and consists of apartments which were about 90% completed.

The apartments were four-storeys with the first two floors being two bedrooms and the other two floors being one-bedroom apartments. This project also faces the same challenge of inadequate funding and as a result, the project has been paused abruptly.

The Chairman of the Committee expressed that he was very impressed with the progress at Amrahia, and was deeply concerned with the slow pace of development at Pokuase and Adenta. He assured the media that the government will play its part, and the project will be completed by the end of the year.
