Adeniyi Johnson escapes robbery attack in Lagos
Actor Adeniyi Johnson has shared a harrowing experience upon his return to Nigeria, highlighting the pressing need for improved security measures in Lagos.
In an post on Sunday, the 47-year-old recounted a robbery attempt that occurred shortly after his arrival in the country.
“Story time again!!! Lagos needs better security than those stop and search that ask ‘oga how weekend, anything for us?!!'” he began, expressing his frustration with the current state of law enforcement.
Adeniyi detailed the incident, explaining that within 15 seconds, his vehicle was attacked by multiple assailants.
“I heard a big bang on my windshield and the next thing I saw were 3 thugs all over my car! Trust me they were more but that was all my eyes out of fear could count!”
He described how the attackers attempted to remove his side mirrors and break his windshield, all while he was trapped in traffic caused by two malfunctioning trailers.
“From both sides I heard ‘yo mirror e’ (remove the mirror) and the other side ‘fo glass e’ (break the windshield)… all these happened because of two mumu trailers with smoke occupying the whole road and not driving on their lanes!!” Johnson emphasised the chaos and danger posed by poorly maintained vehicles and inadequate traffic enforcement.
Despite the frightening ordeal, Adeniyi expressed gratitude for his quick thinking and alertness, which prevented the situation from escalating further.
He also used the opportunity to call for more effective security measures in Lagos, beyond the superficial “stop and search” operations.
In a more uplifting part of his post, Adeniyi congratulated his colleagues Mercy Aigbe, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe and Gabriel Afolayan on their recent wins at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The awards ceremony, held on Saturday at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, celebrated outstanding achievements in African film and television.
