Actor Adeniyi Johnson narrowly escapes armed robbery in Lagos
Veteran Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson has recounted a harrowing close call with armed robbers shortly after returning home from abroad.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Johnson shared footage showing damage to his vehicle and warned motorists to stay vigilant on Lagos roads.
“Story time again,” the actor began. “Got back to my country and na robbery dem take welcome me. Imagine o.” According to, the entire attack unfolded in just 15 seconds.
described hearing “a big bang” against his windshield before three assailants surrounded his car. “From one side I heard ‘yo mirror e’ (remove the mirror) and from the other side ‘fo glass e’ (break the windshield),” he said. Johnson believes the robbers were emboldened by two trailers emitting heavy smoke and blocking the road, forcing him to slow down and become an easy target.
The incident occurred just after Alapere, on the descent from Third Mainland Bridge toward Secretariat before Magodo. Johnson shared, “Thank God for smartness and alertness! If not, the attached video would have been worse.”
This was not his first encounter; he revealed a previous attempt on his life in April around 7:15 p.m., while Thursday’s ordeal took place at approximately 11 p.m. Despite the frightening experience, no one was physically harmed. “The only damage done is the last slide. God is God. Ekule o,” he concluded, using a Yoruba phrase meaning “honey spilled,” a colloquialism for unfortunate mishaps.
Johnson’s warning comes amid growing concerns over road safety and security in Lagos. He urged fellow drivers to “stay woke, be safe.”
