Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian international forward and recent winner of the CAF Player of the Year award, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the president’s visit to Lagos on Friday. The brief but symbolic meeting took place at the Lagos State Government House, where Lookman formally presented the prestigious award to the president.

Also present at the gathering was Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who welcomed both dignitaries and celebrated Lookman’s achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria and Lagos in particular.

Lookman was honoured as Africa’s top footballer in December 2024 during an elaborate ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco. His recognition came on the back of an impressive season with Italian side Atalanta and his standout performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. He played a vital role in Nigeria’s run to the final, contributing with goals and consistent attacking play.

The 27-year-old capped off his club season in style by netting a historic hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing Atalanta’s first European title. His overall form and discipline throughout the season elevated him to continental stardom and earned him the individual accolade that was last held by fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen.

During the meeting with Tinubu, Lookman expressed gratitude for the support he has received from Nigerians both home and abroad. In response, President Tinubu congratulated the winger and urged him to continue being a role model for aspiring young athletes across the country.

The moment marks yet another milestone in the resurgence of Nigerian football, highlighting the talent pipeline that continues to place the nation at the forefront of African sports.
