Addison spied on BoG from home - Festus Aboagye alleges

The operation, which has stirred public debate, was earlier condemned by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who claimed that personal items including jewellery and cash belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife were stolen during the search.

However, Col. Aboagye has offered a different perspective.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, he alleged that the raid was triggered by intelligence reports suggesting Dr. Addison had installed electronic surveillance devices in his home, enabling him to remotely monitor operations at the Bank of Ghana.

“Unless these claims are disputed, intelligence gathered by the state indicated that Dr. Addison had wired his residence with backdoor electronic devices linked directly to the BoG,” Aboagye claimed.

He further stated that what was earlier described as the destruction of a CCTV system was actually the dismantling of a “monitoring wire” used for surveillance purposes.

“What we call ‘monitoring’ is simply a diplomatic word for spying,” he added. “The state did not authorise any former governor to mount surveillance on BoG activities. As far as I’m concerned, that was the core reason behind the search.”

Aboagye claimed that his information came from credible sources within the national security apparatus, suggesting multiple confirmations of the alleged surveillance setup.

Dr. Addison and his legal team have not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
