The squad left Nairobi on Tuesday night ahead of their back-to-back friendlies against Chad. The first game will be played on June 7 before the rematch on June 10.

Benni McCarthy named his final squad, which included only four foreign-based players. The squad is expected to give McCarthy an idea of who to work with ahead of the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) in August.

The tournament is set aside for locally based players, which explains why regulars like captain Michael Olunga and dependable fullback Eric 'Marcelo' Ouma were dropped.

The four players who ply their trade outside the country are Wilson, Brian Bwire, Brian Mandela, and William Lenkupae. Of the four, only Wilson is relatively unknown to local football fans.

Adam Ayiro Wilson was born on April 10, 2000, in Ashington in North East England near Newcastle in Tyne.

He started his youth career at Newcastle United, where he played as a winger before moving to Welsh side The New Saints in 2022.

He played for the Welsh giants for one season, where he scored seven goals in 19 appearances before moving back to England to join Bradford City on a three-year contract.

The 25-year-old, however, returned to TNS on a season-long loan deal in 2024. During his second stint, he helped the Saints to become the first Welsh side to qualify for the league phase of the UEFA Conference League. They were knocked out after finishing 32nd in the 36-team league after getting three points.

Despite the European heartbreak, Wilson won a domestic treble this season. The Saints won the Cymru Premier League title, the Welsh Cup, and the Nathaniel MG Cup.

"What a season. 3 trophies. 1 team. History made. Grateful for every moment, this one’s for the books," he said on Instagram.

The Harambee Stars prospect scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in the treble-winning season.

Wilson has featured for England's U18 four times. Given that he is yet to appear for the senior national team, he is eligible to switch allegiances and will be hoping to become a full Kenyan international this month.

He has previously been called up for Harambee Stars by former coach Engin Firat for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast in 2024, but he didn't make an appearance then.

He was also an unused substitute in the 1-0 loss to Cameroon in the AFCON qualifiers in October last year.

Wilson's inclusion speaks highly of McCarthy's intention to build a squad as he keeps his eyes on the bigger goal - the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.

"Adam Wilson is someone I didn’t have the luxury of seeing previously. But he’s been doing absolutely brilliantly for his club, and this is a good opportunity for me to see how he performs with the national team,” said the South African international.

Wilson is married to YouTuber Chandler Alexis, with whom they have two children, Krew Luxor Eastyn and Airo Luxor.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga left Al Duhail after more than four years.

The former Gor Mahia striker won one Qatari league title and two Golden Boots, leaving as the club's all-time goalscorer.

The 31-year-old will now assess his options ahead of next season.
