Acca of the Day this time consists from two EuroLeague games, and one Serie A game.
In EuroLeague Final Four games, experience, character, and composure in critical moments are often the most important factors — and all of those favor the reigning European champions. Panathinaikos holds the edge in the backcourt and, with the return of Mathias Lessort, gains an additional option in the paint. However, recent performances by Wenyen Gabriel have also given them plenty of reasons to be satisfied with their frontcourt play. Head coach Ergin Ataman has been one of the top coaches at this stage of the competition over the past five or six years, where motivation and instinct are just as crucial as tactical preparation. For all these reasons, we believe Panathinaikos will come out on top and secure a spot in the EuroLeague Final in Abu Dhabi.

Based on everything we’ve seen in the regular season and playoffs, the edge has to go to Olympiacos. They’ve shown the ability to defend at a much higher level than Monaco, and they’re expected to generate more steals and easy transition points. Monaco’s best hope lies in the possibility that Vezenkov and Fournier have an off shooting night, something that can happen, especially given their sometimes questionable shot selection. But if that’s your main source of optimism, it doesn’t bode well. In a one-game knockout, anything is possible, but we believe Olympiacos is a significantly bigger favorite in this semifinals than the oddsmakers suggest.

This is a matchup between two of the top three defensive teams in Serie A, and it was clear in Game 2 that both Venezia and Virtus are more defensively oriented than offensive-minded. Now, additional pressure is expected on the home team, which is on the brink of elimination, while the visitors will likely aim to slow the game down and reduce the number of possessions. Neither side has had many standout offensive performances in the first two games, further reinforcing the belief that the upcoming game is likely to be a low-scoring affair, potentially falling under the projected margin.

Picks:
Panathinaikos to win
Olympiacos -2.5
Venezia vs Virtus under 163.5 points
