A’bad gets light showers, records 38°C

Ahmedabad: Several areas of the city received light showers on Tuesday afternoon. The respite, however, was for a short duration and soon gave way to hot and humid conditions. The maximum temperature remained low at 38 degrees celsius, 3.3 degrees below normal.

At 26 degrees celsius, the minimum temperature was 2.1 degrees below normal. The northern limit of the southwest monsoon continued to pass through Mumbai and Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra and Puri in Odisha on Tuesday, the Met department bulletin said. There are slim chances of its progress in the next few days due to a lack of a conducive environment. The department forecast maximum temperature around 38 degrees celsius with chances of light to moderate rain or thundershowers for Ahmedabad on Wednesday.Till 8pm on Tuesday, 20 talukas in the state received 1mm or more of rainfall. Jambughoda in Panchmahal received 17mm of rain, followed by Pardi and Vapi in Valsad district, which received 11mm each. The majority of rainfall was recorded in central and south Gujarat. Across Gujarat, the maximum temperatures remained below 40 degrees celsius. Amreli had the highest maximum temperature at 39.7 degrees celsius, followed by Rajkot at 39.4 degrees celsius and Kandla at 39 degrees celsius. For the majority of cities and towns, the minimum temperatures remained around 26 to 29 degrees celsius.
