Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa
Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa is no stranger to controversies.
From arrests to lawsuits, the controversial personality has been involved in feuds with some high-profile individuals, as well as indirectly getting such personalities into scandals.
This article will take a look at some of the biggest instances Agradaa made headlines for the wrong reasons
1. Arrest Over Alleged Money-Doubling Scam
In October 2022, Nana Agradaa was arrested by the Ghana Police Service following allegations of a money-doubling scam. She was accused of deceiving members of her church by promising to double their money but failing to deliver. The police urged victims to report to assist in investigations.
2. Controversial Conversion to Christianity
After her arrest, Agradaa announced her conversion to Christianity, adopting the name Evangelist.
She claimed to have abandoned her 'Sika Gari' money-doubling practices and destroyed her idols. However, many Ghanaians expressed skepticism, viewing her conversion as a strategy to avoid legal consequences.
3. Feud with Rev. Owusu Bempah
Agradaa has had a contentious relationship with Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah over the past few years.
In 2023, she allegedly spread false rumors about his death, prompting him to refute the claims and consider legal action. Another confrontation led to Owusu Bempah and some of his junior pastors being arrested after they were seen brandishing weapons around her premises.
In 2024, Owusu Bempah accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of using Agradaa to attack him after he prophesied about political events in the lead up to the December 7 general elections.
4. Sammy Gyamfi Dollar Gift Controversy
In May 2025, a video surfaced showing Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, handing over $800 to Agradaa during a public event.
The gesture sparked public outrage, with critics questioning the appropriateness of such a gift from a government official. He later apologised, and NPP's Owusu Bempah defended him, stating that the gift was a private matter.
Agradaa, however, remained apologetic, even using the incident to promote a ‘special oil’ and bragging that she would get a bagful of cash if she gets to meet the president.
5. Defamation Lawsuit by Empress Gifty
Gospel musician Empress Gifty filed a defamation lawsuit against Agradaa in May 2025, seeking GH₵20 million in damages.
The lawsuit alleges that Agradaa made defamatory statements about Empress Gifty and her husband, Hopeson Adorye, during a live broadcast on social media.
Empress Gifty claims that these statements have caused significant harm to her reputation and personal life.
Agradaa, unfazed by the lawsuit, took to social media to rain more insults on the couple.
