Mohammed Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), stated that authorities have taken 485 people into custody in connection with the violent “Gen Z anniversary protests” that broke out across different parts of the country on June 25.

While addressing reporters, Amin explained the gravity of the charges facing the suspects.

“As of today, 485 individuals have been arrested in connection with what happened on June 25, 202,” he said Monday.

The suspects face various criminal allegations like murder, rape, gang rape, assault obstructing police on duty, breaking and entering, robbery with violence, and theft from secured motorcycles. Other charges include inciting violence possessing stolen items, destroying property, and carrying firearms.

Amin pointed out that the crackdown continues. He stated that authorities are determined to bring everyone who caused the unrest and damage during the protests to justice.

“We must not allow our nation to spiral into anarchy and chaos. The police will not remain passive while lawlessness threatens our collective peace and security,” Amin said.

Out of the 485 people arrested in the June 25 “Gen Z anniversary protests,” authorities have officially charged 448 in court, while investigations are ongoing for 37 others, said Mohammed Amin.

He mentioned that investigators now think the protests were taken over by people with a clear agenda to harm national stability.

“Further investigations, including statements obtained from those arrested suspects, reveal a deliberate and well-funded plot to incite chaos, civil unrest, and widespread anarchy under the guise of peaceful demonstration,” he explained.

The head of the DCI highlighted that the evidence shows a systematic effort to use the protests for criminal and political goals. He warned that the crackdown will go on as security teams continue working to find and prosecute all main organizers.

Officials are stepping up efforts to figure out how the June 25 protests spiraled into chaos. They suspect a well-planned scheme might be behind it and are looking into both the origins and the funding of these actions. Security teams aim to find those who organized and paid for the disturbances.

Director Mohammed Amin assured that the agency is dedicated to exposing everything about the plan. He declared that anyone found guilty will face consequences, no matter how powerful they are or who they know.
