2 charged with theft of economic trees worth N13m - Daily Trust

The Ekiti State police command has arraigned two persons, Azeez Mustapha, 67, and Najee Adedayo, 51, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on February 16 at about 10am at Ire-Ekiti, the defendants stole four stumps of economic trees valued at N13,570,000, property of one Chief Jemiseye T. Thaddus.

Inspector Oriyomi added that on the same date, time and place, the defendants maliciously damaged cassava plantation valued at N215,000, property of Chief Jemiseye T. Thaddus.

According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 421, 302(1)(a), 354(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant her clients bail, which Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun did in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each and adjourned the case till April 24, for hearing.
