18-year-old bride slits husband's throat nine days after wedding in Kano
Tragedy struck the family of Salisu Idris in Farawa Quarters, Kano, on Tuesday when his 18-year-old wife, Saudat Jibril, allegedly slit his throat, sending him to an early grave just nine days after their wedding.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but the Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Jibril on charges of culpable homicide. The spokesperson for the command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement that the suspect used a sharp knife to fatally attack her 30-year-old husband. “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, swiftly deployed a team of detectives to the scene,” Kiyawa said.
He added, “The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead. The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, and will be charged to court for the offence of culpable homicide.”
The Commissioner of Police assured the public of a thorough investigation, stressing that the command would not condone violence or criminality. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the police emergency lines.
This incident follows a similar case in Kano involving Rahma Hussein, a 16-year-old girl who stabbed her husband to death less than a week after their wedding in the Darmanawa area of Tarauni Local Council. Hussein served seven years in a custodial facility following her conviction for murder before being released.
