10 Best Final Fight Scenes In Star Wars Movies & TV Shows

Published 1 week ago9 minute read

There have been a number of final lightsaber duels and fight sequences in , but these 10 represent the very best in all Star Wars movies and TV shows. Since the very beginning of the franchise, final duels have been a staple, particularly when it comes to Star Wars movies. In A New Hope, this was the face-off between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, which tragically ended in Obi-Wan's death.

Star Wars movies have continued this pattern, including the duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader's epic Mustafar battle in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Star Wars shows have followed suit, be it the duel between Darth Maul and Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars or the confrontation between Moff Gideon, Bo-Katan Kryze, Din Djarin, and Grogu in The Mandalorian season 3 ending. .

While it's no secret that The Acolyte remains one of the most highly criticized TV shows in Star Wars, if not the single most criticized, . This sequence began with a face-off between Master Sol and Qimir/the Stranger, arguably the two best duelists in the show, at least in terms of who we saw. Qimir in particular proved to be an incredible duelist, and his fights were consistently among the best on the show.

In addition to Qimir and Sol's battle, though, . For one, this was the first time the process of bleeding a kyber crystal was shown on screen, as Osha accidentally bled the crystal in Sol's lightsaber. It was also fascinating to watch Osha turn on Sol, whom she had clearly loved before, and Force choke him. This isn't the very best final battle, but it does make the list.

Although these scenes certainly suffered from Obi-Wan Kenobi's lighting issue, . Yes, this was a well-choreographed duel, but it also had incredible emotional resonance. Namely, this fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader provided an emotional closure that was unexpected following Revenge of the Sith.

Similar to a scene between Ahsoka and Vader in Star Wars Rebels, this battle saw half of Darth Vader's mask cracked, with Anakin's face peeking through. It was then that Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader spoke plainly about Anakin's fall to the dark side, with Obi-Wan apologizing "for all of it" and Vader (surprisingly) reassuring Obi-Wan that he wasn't to blame. Whether that was a kindness or not, it was a pivotal moment in Anakin Skywalker's Star Wars timeline and a meaningful bit of closure for this pair that had once been like brothers.

Lightsaber duels are undeniably some of the most exciting scenes in Star Wars, but The Mandalorian managed to make its final fight plenty exciting without two lightsabers going head-to-head. Specifically, Mandalorian villain Moff Gideon had one final face-off between himself, Grogu, Bo-Katan, and Din Djarin in The Mandalorian season 3 ending. This was the conclusion to a three-season-long struggle between Moff Gideon and Din Djarin.

A number of things made this scene one of the most exciting final fights in Star Wars movies and shows, including the fact that it shockingly ended in Moff Gideon's fiery death. This also saw a stunning Force feat from Grogu, Force barrier, which is one of the lesser shown Force powers in Star Wars. This was especially meaningful because it meant Grogu protecting Din Djarin and Bo-Katan and these three characters surviving together.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch felt truly unique in Star Wars because not only did it not focus on the Force, the Skywalker family, or the Jedi, but it also focused on a group that hadn't previously gotten enough attention in the franchise: the clone troopers. This show even introduced a first-of-her-kind character, Omega, who was an unaltered female clone of Jango Fett. The three seasons of the show saw a number of emotional ups and downs, including the tragic death of Tech, but the Bad Batch season 3 ending in particular was exciting, emotional, and overall well-done.

Like The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch didn't end with a Jedi-versus-Jedi lightsaber fight. Instead, the clones headed to Mount Tantiss on Wayland, the location of Emperor Palpatine's cloning experimentation, to rescue Omega from the clutches of the Empire. This ended with an all-out fight between the Bad Batch and various Imperials, such as the death of Dr. Hemlock, which ended in the destruction of this cloning facility—a major blow to the Empire. What made this final fight even more satisfying was the fact that the Bad Batch members then got an incredibly rare happy ending in Star Wars.

Luke Skywalker's cameo in The Mandalorian season 2 ending took audiences completely by surprise and became one of the most thrilling moments in Star Wars thus far. This was especially exciting because it took place after Return of the Jedi but before Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the Star Wars timeline, meaning it was a look at Luke Skywalker in an era we haven't seen before on screen. However, .

This was truly a new side to Luke, which is part of what had fans so enthralled. In the original trilogy, Luke is just developing his skills (although he was already becoming one of Star Wars' most powerful Jedi), and in the sequel trilogy, Luke has cut himself off from the Force. This therefore offered viewers a look at Luke Skywalker in his prime, and the fact that it was a complete surprise only made it all the better. While it may not have been a Jedi versus Sith head-to-head, this entrance is among Star Wars' best final fights.

Most of Star Wars' best lightsaber duels have happened in live-action, particularly in the movies, but . This was especially true of The Clone Wars' final fight sequence in the two-episode finale, which took place during Order 66. In particular, the scenes focused on Ahsoka Tano's experience during Order 66 were absolutely thrilling in terms of the final fight.

This included Ahsoka's efforts to save herself from Order 66 without killing the clones she'd grown close to, but it also involved Ahsoka's epic duel with Darth Maul. This lightsaber fight is largely seen as one of the very best in the franchise, and for good reason. In addition to the narrative significance of this moment, this battle was filled with beautiful choreography and a perfect representation of the dark versus the light.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has the high honor of being considered one of Star Wars' best movies, despite it not being part of the Skywalker Saga. There are various reasons why this movie is held in such high regard, many of which have to do with the original storytelling and the dynamic (and primarily brand-new) characters. While Rogue One is clearly distinct from the Skywalker story, though, .

In a visually stunning and frankly terrifying scene, Darth Vader ignites his lightsaber in a hallway full of Rebels and cuts them all down with ease. This entire sequence actually begins with the chilling image of Vader standing at one end of the dark hallway, with the entire screen taking on the red hue of his saber. This was a sobering reminder of the true power of Darth Vader, and, although it was sad to see so many Rebels die for the cause, it's easily one of Star Wars' best final fights.

One of the most iconic lightsaber battles in the entire Star Wars franchise took place in the original trilogy. Specifically, in the confrontation between Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi, . Yes, it was an exciting fight in and of itself, but the real impact of this fight was what it meant for the larger narrative.

It was during this lightsaber duel that Vader ultimately realized he wasn't willing to kill or even sacrifice his son to hold onto his power. Instead, Vader shockingly turned against his own master, Emperor Palpatine, and killed him to save Luke. This is also what led to the redemption of Anakin Skywalker and his return to the light side of the Force, so it is truly one of the most important moments in all of Star Wars. Of course, with time, this scene has only become even more iconic.

Revenge of the Sith includes many of the most important moments in Star Wars, from Order 66, to the fall of the Republic, to the establishment of the Empire. Yet, even in a movie packed with key events, . For one, Revenge of the Sith's Mustafar duel is among the best choreographed battles in the franchise, and it's also executed by two of the strongest duelists in Star Wars, both in terms of the characters and the actors.

This was also the emotional culmination of the prequel trilogy, in which we tragically saw the violent end to the familial bond between Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi. In fact, just given the narrative significance of this final fight, it's earned its spot as one of the best. This lightsaber duel is so much more than solely that, though, and even 20 years later, this is the duel that others in Star Wars movies and TV shows are often compared against, for good reason.

Even 20 years later, this is the duel that others in Star Wars movies and TV shows are often compared against.

. This epic duel was not only visually incredible, but also, it incorporated one of the best songs in the entire Star Wars franchise, which certainly enhanced how thrilling the duel was. This was also the prequels' first Sith versus Jedi battle, which made it especially exciting.

Like many final fights on this list, the Duel of the Fates also had great importance to the story, as it was this fight that led to the death of Qui-Gon and therefore sealed Obi-Wan's fate as Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Master. In that sense, this was actually a defining battle in terms of the larger galaxy. There have been many stunning final fights in , but this fight in The Phantom Menace is truly the best.
