The Russo brothers have given us some amazing movies under the MCU banner. They brilliantly executed ’ franchise making it a gritty, ground level drama, and went on to make the highest grossing movies like and . Since they wrapped up the MCU work, the duo has gone bigger producing some cool movies under their AGBO banner. However, we are yet to see a hit from them outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to which they are returning to helm upcoming and .
Their latest release, , starring and marks their lowest Rotten Tomatoes scored movie out of the MCU. The post-apocalyptic feature has garnered 23% on Rotten Tomatoes. In contrast, starring Evans as a foul-mouthed villain and as a vigilante has a much better Rotten Tomatoes score at 45 percent and starring scored 37 percent. All three are directed by and but fail to recreate the same magic.
Fans couldn’t believe their luck when not only the Russo brothers, but (as Doctor Doom) was announced to come back for and . Starting with Doomsday, the movie will film in London while the plot is kept tightly under wraps. Nonetheless, the confirmed actors to be in the cast include as Doctor Strange, stars as Reed Richards, as Sue Storm, as Johnny Storm, and as Ben Grimm, along with returning actors as Peggy Carter, as Captain America, Holland as Spider-Man, and the entire cast of Thuderbolts* among others.
The duo previously shared their motivation to return to the MCU with Collider, explaining, “what we're chasing is this idea that we felt there was more powerful storytelling to be done,” Anthony Russo explained, adding, “That's what motivated us, when we tuned into a story that we felt had to be told that we wanted to tell, and that would be an incredible thrill, not just for us, but for audiences. That's what we're focused on. We can't really control what ends up to a movie after you make it. All we can do is put our best effort into making it.”
The Electric State is streaming on Netflix. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for 2026 release.
