Celebrated Tanzanian Taarab singer Khadija Kopa has confirmed that her daughter, Bongo star Zuchu, has officially tied the knot with music heavyweight Diamond Platnumz.

Speaking during a phone interview with a Tanzanian radio station, Khadija opened up about the rumoured union, sending blessings to the couple and expressing her joy over their decision to formalise their relationship.

"When someone gets married, we give thanks. Alhamdulillah, because it’s not that we want our children to live in sin. But youth is like hot water, we’ve all been there, with boyfriends and all that. We are grateful to God because we prefer our children to marry and live peacefully. They did it secretly, but we are thankful. Alhamdulillah. I pray for blessings upon them, may they bear good children who will respect them," she said.

Khadija also addressed the viral chatter surrounding the absence of Zuchu’s biological father during the ceremony, particularly his omission in the traditional act of handing over the bride.

According to her, the couple had long agreed that when the time came, Zuchu would be given away by an elder of her choice.

She further explained that she and Zuchu’s father are no longer married, which also contributed to the decision.

Surprisingly, the singer also revealed she was not present at the wedding, which was kept under wraps until after the ceremony had taken place.

"No, I wasn’t there at all. It was something none of us knew about. They kept it completely private and only informed us afterwards. They refused to have a public ceremony," Khadija revealed.

On the first day of June, Diamond caused a stir on social media after posting a series of photos that strongly hinted at a wedding with Zuchu.

The images showed the two lovebirds dressed in elegant, all-white traditional Muslim attire, their heads respectfully covered, while elders surrounded them, appearing to officiate the union.

In another video, Zuchu gushed over Diamond, referring to him as her husband and confirming the swirling rumours that they had indeed tied the knot.
