Zalgiris adds playmaker Nigel Williams-Goss
Zalgiris Kaunas has found its new playmaker in Nigel Williams-Goss, the club announced on Wednesday. The sides agreed to a two-year deal with an option for a third season.
Williams-Goss (1.91 meters, 30 years old) arrives from Olympiacos Piraeus, where he averaged 8.6 points and 3.4 assists in 35 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games this season. As a key member of the Reds' rotation, he helped lead the team to the best record in the regular season and a playoff series triumph over Real Madrid, which saw Olympiacos play at the Final Four for the fourth successive year.
This was Williams-Goss's second spell with Olympiacos, having played for the team in the 2018-19 season before suiting up for the Reds in each of the last two campaigns.
After taking Gonzaga University to the 2017 NCAA Tournament final, Williams-Goss started his professional basketball career with Partizan Belgrade, where he made his BKT EuroCup debut in the 2017-18 season and led the team to the Serbian Cup. Following his first season with Olympiacos, Williams-Goss went on to play for Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar in Russia and Real Madrid in Spain. He helped Los Blancos win the EuroLeague in 2023 and the Spanish League in 2022. He returned to the Reds before the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
Williams-Goss was also a member of the USA national team at the youth level, helping it win a gold medal at the 2013 U19 World Championship. In 152 EuroLeague career games with Olympiacos and Real, Williams-Goss has averaged 8.1 points and 3.1 assists.
