ochi: A young man went missing after being swept away by strong currents of Pooyamkutty River, a significant tributary of Periyar River, at Manikandanchal near Kothamangalam.

The missing person was identified as 35-year-old Radhakrishnan alias Biju of Manikandanchal.The incident occurred around 6.15am on Wednesday while he was trying to cross Manikandanchal causeway, which was submerged due to heavy overnight rains. Following the currents, he was swept away into Pooyamkutty River.Although locals, along with fire force's scuba diving team and a team from NDRF, conducted search operations in the area, Biju could not be traced. Rescue operations will resume on Thursday morning.
