The TV show is reportedly in negotiations for its Hagrid actor, and it's easily the best news we've received yet for the series. HBO's Harry Potter series is set to begin filming over the summer, hoping to meet the expected 2026 release date. With that in mind, casting choices are hot on everyone's minds, and some critical professor characters have already been discussed. Veteran actor John Lithgow will be playing Albus Dumbledore, and

Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid throughout the Harry Potter film series, and, as with many of the iconic performances in the movies, there will be gigantic (figuratively and literally) shoes to fill in the TV series. Hagrid is a fan favorite and a particularly crucial character in The Sorcerer's Stone, which should be the source material for the HBO show's first season. Hagrid will be one of the characters to get the show off the ground, making the proper casting imperative.

Not only is Nick Frost a perfect choice for Hagrid, but he was even Screen Rant's fan-cast choice back in 2023 when the HBO series was first announced. While right now, it may be difficult to imagine anyone aside from Robbie Coltrane in the role, .

Nick Frost, who's best known for starring in Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy,. In many ways, Hagrid is the heart of the Harry Potter series, and Nick Frost is perfectly endearing. I can imagine him becoming a quick fan favorite in the first few episodes of season 1 once the TV series airs.

Forget Snape & Dumbledore, There's 1 Adult Harry Potter Character HBO's Remake Can't Mess Up

HBO has finally begun announcing its casting choices for its Harry Potter TV remake, and these trendier choices have me concerned for this character.

Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

In the books, Hagrid was born in 1928, making him in his early 60s at the start of the series. Nick Frost is a bit younger at 52, but physical appearance might not be an enormous factor, given that he'll be enlarged and covered in wigs and other prosthetics. Robbie Coltrane was born in 1950, meaning he was a couple of years younger than Nick Frost when he began his Hagrid tenure. Logistically, Nick Frost is the ideal casting choice for the TV show.
