Yankees Hopeful but Face Questions After Shortstop's Early Exit Friday - NewsBreak
The New York Yankees dodged a bullet on Friday night. Anthony Volpe left in the second inning after being hit with a pitch on the elbow by Red Sox starter Walker Buehler. Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that tests, an X-ray, and a CT scan on the shortstop's left elbow showed no structural damage to the elbow.
Volpe told reporters that he hopes to be back in the lineup on Saturday, even though he admitted the elbow was still painful and swollen.
Boone's comments that Volpe is stiff and sore and that he is considered day-to-day mean they are more likely to rest him. Ultimately, that means they have no idea when Volpe will be back in the lineup.

"A little stiff and sore, but hopefully nothing that keeps him out for very long," Boone told reporters after the Yankees' 9-6 win over Boston.
While this means Volpe will avoid the injured list, they will likely have to make do with Oswald Peraza at shortstop for at least a few days.
Volpe is having a solid season for the New York Yankees. In 60 games, he boasts a .241 batting average with a .321 on-base and .429 slugging percentage. He has hit eight home runs, 37 RBIs, and has seven stolen bases.
Notably, Volpe has improved his plate discipline, with a walk rate of 10% and a chase rate of 20.7%, both career bests. His average exit velocity has increased to 90.7 mph, and his hard-hit rate has risen to 46.3%, indicating a more consistent and powerful offensive approach this season.
Volpe is a workhorse for the Yankees, rarely missing a start. Last season, Volpe played in 160 of 162 regular-season games. In his rookie year, Volpe played in 159.
