Yankees Announce Trade Before Mets Game

Published 8 hours ago2 minute read

The New York Mets and New York Yankees are set to begin one of the most anticipated series on the 2025 MLB regular season schedule. While the Subway Series always brings intrigue, this year has a new element because of superstar outfielder Juan Soto.

After helping lead the Yankees to the World Series last season, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Soto departed in free agency. In doing so, he signed a historic 15-year, $765 million contract that made him the highest-paid player ever.

On Friday night, Soto will not only face his former team, but former fanbase. The Bronx crowd is expected to shower him with boos, which is something he is prepared for (via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com).

Just under two hours before Friday’s series opener, the Yankees officially announced a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. Per the team, they have dealt away from their organizational pitching depth in exchange for cash considerations.

"Earlier today, the Yankees traded LHP Rob Zastryzny to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations," the team announced on X.

Zastryzny has a 4.50 ERA in Triple-A this season. The left-hander has made 54 MLB appearances since making his debut for the Chicago Cubs in 2016.

The Yankees enter this game with a 25-18 record that ranks first in the American League East. The Mets are 28-16, which is good for first place in the National League East. These two teams will play three times this weekend before meeting again in early July.

As for Soto, he returns to the Mets lineup after his first absence of the season on Wednesday. The left-handed slugger owns a 142 OPS+ in 157 at-bats with his new team.
