As the world marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025, Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has underscored the importance of preventive measures, which she noted protect lives.
She said this year’s theme: “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention. Break the cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime” speaks to this fact of investing more in prevention.
Mrs Tinubu, however, called on leaders, parents and teachers in our communities to redouble efforts in curtailing the menance of drug abuse in our societies.
In her personal message commemorating the global day of observance against drugs, she harped on youth engagement including support for families in raising awareness against the illicit practice.
Her words, “The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking calls on all of us as leaders, parents, teachers, communities to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the health and future of our people, especially our youth from the menace of drug abuse”.
In her estimation, the evidence is clear: when we invest in prevention, we protect lives. Every child in Nigeria deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from the devastating grip of drug abuse and the threats of organized crime.
“Our responsibility is to positively engage our youth, support our families and raise awareness. Together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient Nigeria,” she noted in her personal message to Nigerians commemorating the international day against drug abuse.
