As the 2024-25 regular season begins to wind down, one team dealing with the injury bug happens to be the Iowa State Cyclones.
Two key athletes for squad have been banged up recently, guards and , and while Jones made his return against Oklahoma State, the jury is still out on Gilbert.
On Saturday morning, ahead of Iowa State’s massive game against No. 22 Arizona, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that Gilbert will be a game-time decision for the third straight game due to a muscle strain.
Gilbert has been a huge piece for Iowa State this season, averaging 14.1 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per contest. While his numbers are one thing, his leadership has also been missed. Iowa State suffered an uncharacteristic loss to in the Oklahoma State Cowboys in their last outing and now has to take on one of the Big 12’s best on a two-game losing streak.
Despite ESPN’s Pete Thamel referring to Gilbert’s injury as “day-to-day, not week-to-week,” the St. Louis native has now missed the last week of basketball and could be looking at more time if he remains out against Arizona.
Iowa State enters the game as a 5.5-point favorite, and if they can get their star back in action, the addition would be massive for the Cyclones. Iowa State and Arizona State tip-off on Saturday, March 1st, at 8:00 p.m. central.
