Is it to facilitate the reading of the Koran?

Why not Spanish or Chinese? Arabic?

A country that is surrounded by French-speaking countries.

How many Ghanaian children need Arabic and for what purpose? 

Parents who desire their children to speak and write the Arabic language can make  arrangements for that.

One would have thought that Twi  would be studied and taught in our basic schools.

Twi is becoming a potential linguistic force in Ghana.

Most foreigners, particularly from neighbouring countries, learn and speak it and become easily adaptable in the country.

In certain communities, it has become the lingua franca.

Additionally,  the Bank of Ghana recently expressed ideas about the establishment of an Islamic banking system in accordance with the Sharia law.

Two separate laws governing banking in Ghana?

The President, in his address to Muslims during the recent Muslim festival, promised to institute scholarships for Muslim students.

There is the wrong perception that poverty is endemic only in the north.

This is not wholly true. 

In the south, even in the peri-urban areas, poverty is endemic.

In greater parts of the south, people are just struggling to make a living.

But to single out a particular religious sect for this favour smacks of discrimination.

Recently, the government granted an additional public holiday for Muslims.

Apart from the fact of our secularism, let it also be drummed home to our policy makers that Christianity and Islam are not the only two religions in Ghana.

Let other religions, particularly the traditional religions, be factored into some of these policies/favours.

It was Sir Francis Bacon, a 16th century English Philosopher, who said, "Next to religion, let your care be to promote justice".

Let the government promote justice in its policy decisions across all sectors, religions and communities.
