What We Know About the Disappearance of Lilly and Jack Sullivan

Published 1 day ago3 minute read

According to their mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, Lilly and Jack had been home from school, recovering from a cold. On the morning of May 2, they were reportedly playing quietly inside while their mom and stepfather, Daniel Martell, were in the bedroom with the couple’s infant daughter. Martell believes the kids may have quietly slipped out through a sliding glass door—one that doesn’t make much noise when opened.

When the couple realized the pair were gone, they immediately called 911 around 10 a.m.

One key detail the RCMP has confirmed is that Lilly and Jack were seen in public with family members on May 1, just one day before they were reported missing. That’s the last time they were definitively spotted by anyone outside the home.

Now, police are asking for help from anyone who may have seen the children after that sighting. Specifically, they’re asking people who live along or drove on Gairloch Road between April 28 and May 2 to check any dashcam or surveillance footage. It’s a small window, but it could hold important clues.

Following their disappearance, the RCMP led a large-scale search involving over 160 people—police, volunteers, drones, K-9 units, and helicopters. The search stretched across a rugged 5.5 square kilometer area surrounding the family’s home. Despite these efforts, no trace of the kids was found.

After six days, the search was scaled back. But the investigation is still ongoing, and tips continue to come in.

The children’s biological father hasn’t had contact with them and isn’t believed to be involved. Their stepfather, Daniel Martell, has publicly said he’s done everything asked of him by police—handing over his phone and even taking a polygraph test. He told media outlets he passed and is cooperating fully.

Martell says he’s heartbroken and just wants the kids home safe.

The children’s mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, left Lansdowne Station with her infant daughter on May 3—one day after Lilly and Jack were reported missing. She is currently staying with family in another part of Nova Scotia. Martell says he hasn’t heard from her since. Police have not commented on her movements, and no one in the family has been named a suspect.

The RCMP says it has followed up on more than 350 tips and conducted over 50 interviews. While early speculation suggested the kids may have wandered off, investigators haven’t ruled out any possibilities—including foul play.

They’re still hoping the public can help—especially anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area on or around May 1. Even small, seemingly insignificant details could be important.

The disappearance of Lilly and Jack has deeply impacted their local community, and the broader public is following closely. The siblings have ties to the Mi’kmaq community through their grandfather, and members of the First Nation have urged the public to remain respectful and avoid spreading misinformation that could disrupt the search for the truth.

It’s been nearly a month with no answers. Lilly and Jack are still missing. The RCMP says the investigation remains a top priority, and they continue to explore all leads.

If you’ve seen anything or captured any footage in the area around Gairloch Road during the days before their disappearance, contact the RCMP. It could be the detail that brings these children home.
