Good news Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood fans! Fred Rogers Productions announced that season 8 of the beloved PBS Kids show is coming in 2026, according to a press release. There will be 10 new episodes and two half-hour specials with more important lessons, adventure, and sing-along fun.
“Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and its helpful, singable strategies have resonated with families since the series first launched in 2012, and it continues to be a favorite today,” Ellen Doherty, chief creative officer at Fred Rogers Productions, says in a statement. “We’re excited to provide a new season of quality content that includes valuable life lessons while furthering the legacy of Fred Rogers with fresh stories, characters, and adventures.”
Here's everything families can expect from the upcoming season.
One of the half-hour specials will introduce a new face: Daniel's cousin, who is adopted. This isn't the first time the show has brought on a new character to emphasize different family dynamics. In season 7, Jodi's dad, Mr. Plat, was introduced, normalizing co-parenting as young viewers learned that sometimes she stays with her dad, who lives in a different home than her mom.
The second half-hour special will be holiday-themed by focusing on New Year’s Eve traditions in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.
As for the new episodes, the show is sticking to a tradition of modeling important life skills through relatable themes, such as managing morning and nighttime routines, cleaning up, and patience. Some of these lessons stay with children as they grow. Research has found that many teens still lean on the social-emotional skills the show taught them.
Plus, preschoolers and their parents will see the return of the "grown-ups come back” parenting strategy. That helps kids cope with separation anxiety by emphasizing that caregivers return after temporary separations, such as little ones going to school. There will also be a new strategy based on the classic Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood song, “Let’s Think of Something to Do While We’re Waiting.”
Season 8 will additionally come with new free games on the PBS Kids website and the games app.
Families can watch the show on their local PBS station. They can also stream it for free on the PBS Kids Video app and the PBS Kids website. For access to games and activities, families can head to pbskids.org/daniel.
