What Fans Can Expect from 'Phineas and Ferb' Season 5

Published 1 day ago4 minute read

If you’ve seen the show before, you’ll know that Phineas and Ferb is remaining true to its essence by releasing its newest season just in time for summer—for the past 5 years, each new season of the show coincides with the titular characters’ summer break. The animated series for kids and tweens will debut with two episodes: “Summer Block Buster: Cloudy With a Chance of Mom” and “Submarine Sandwich Submarine: License To Bust.”

Phineas Flynn, his stepbrother Ferb Fletcher, and their crew of friends are still planning and embarking on epic summer adventures. Each day in the world of Phineas and Ferb is filled with a fantastical invention or creation—and their big sister Candace (Ashley Tisdale) is still perpetually annoyed by their mischievous antics, and on a mission to expose their exploits to their mom, Linda Flynn-Fletcher.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz is once again trying to take over the Tri-State area, but his attempts at enacting his evil plans to chaos are mediocre at best. Viewers will also find Phineas and Ferb’s pet Platypus, Perry, back on the job as a spy for the O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym).

As a five-time Emmy Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated animated comedy for kids, Phineas and Ferb understands what resonates with kids: humor, fun, adventure, quirky personalities, and life lessons learned—and none of that is changing. After all, why mess with a good thing?

There are some new additions to the cast, and all the fan-favorite characters are returning to the show: Vincent Martella and David Errigo Jr. as step-brothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher, respectively, Ashley Tisdale as Candace Flynn, co-creator and executive producer Dan Povenmire as “Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz”, Alyson Stoner as Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus, Caroline Rhea as Linda Flynn-Fletcher, and co-creator and executive producer Jeff “Swampy” Marsh as Major Francis Monogram.

And there’s an all-star guest cast appearing this season, which includes: Michael Bublé, Alan Cumming, John Stamos, Leslie Jones, Anna Faris, Megan Rapinoe, and Meghan Trainor, among others.

Kids love the snark and humor of Phineas and Ferb. But when you look closely you’ll find that the show teaches about life and family in a healthy way that parents will approve of, too.

Not only does the series provide a positive representation of a blended family, but it also depicts the ups and downs of sibling relationships in an honest, authentic way. In a recent chat with Parents, Rhea shared why this show resonates so well with kids and families.

“[The show] indulges our imagination, and that every kid loves the idea that they're actually getting away with it and not getting busted,” she explains. "I'm the youngest sister, so I loved busting my sisters." She thinks that fundamental understanding the show has about kids and their siblings is what makes the show so "funny and clever."

Candace, the brothers' older sister who they love to frustrate and annoy, is now 16, and Ashley Tisdale reveals that her entertaining the height of her teenage years will add another interesting layer to the show.

"I think that obviously it's going to be a lot of fun," Tisdale says of her character's new attitude. "There's a lot of newness to this new season, but it's so fun to play a character that's 16 now and [all the things that] happen when you're 16."

Phineas, Ferb, Candace, Isabella, and the rest of their friends, are always up to something creative. For instance, in the new season episode “Summer Block Buster”, Phineas and Ferb are hard at work creating wondrous contraptions to ensure that the neighborhood block party is larger than life.

The show also reveals that in the absence of adults, kids often feel like their most authentic selves. While mom, Linda Flynn-Fletcher, is off handling business, life for the kids really begins to get interesting.

Season 5 premieres on Thursday, June 5th, on the Disney Channel and DisneyXD; on June 6 the first 10 episodes will premiere on Disney+.

For loyal fans who are eagerly awaiting the season to begin, a sneak peek of “Summer Block Buster” introduced kids to the show’s new anthem, “Summer Is Starting Right Now.”

For kids in real life, summer is right around the corner, and what better way to spend your free time than watching Phineas and Ferb stress out their families with their playful schemes—in between letting their own imaginations run wild during adventures of their own, of course.
