What else do you want, Minority? - Sampson Ahi slams NPP MPs for failing to 'approve' budget
Member of Parliament for Bodi, Sampson Ahi
The Member of Parliament for Bodi, Sampson Ahi, has criticised Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their dissatisfaction with the 2025 Budget presented by the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
Speaking about the budget on the floor of Parliament on Friday, March 21, 2025, Ahi urged the NPP caucus to acknowledge and accept the recent allocation of funds to support victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
He questioned the Minority on what exactly they want that is stopping them from approving the budget.
“Another important program I expect my colleagues to welcome is the allocation of GH¢242.5 million to support victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage. Who are you people? What are you, people? Who are you with? Mr Speaker. Are you not surprised that they haven't seen anything positive about this budget, despite all that I'm mentioning?" he stated.
To reinforce his argument, he recounted an incident during the previous administration when then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reportedly criticised residents of the Volta Region, claiming they had not voted for him and suggesting he wouldn’t have visited them.
He emphasised that the previous government failed to address the plight of the spillage victims and urged that the current administration be given the opportunity to alleviate their suffering.
“What else do you want, Minority? What else do you want? This is the time that Nana Addo told Ghanaians that if he’s looking at the voting pattern of the people, he wouldn't have visited them. He didn't do anything about it. Now, as a new government comes in, they have allocated so much to alleviate their suffering. Isn't this a positive development?" he added.
