Wetang'ula Blasts Kalonzo for Linking Him to Goons Who Stoned Opposition in Chwele
The opposition have laid blame on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula following pockets of violence they encountered during their tour of Western Kenya.
The team led by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua traversed the Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties to advance their campaign against President William Ruto.
Their political sojourn in the counties was seamless and peaceful until they encountered goons in Chwele, Wetang'ula's native locality, while en route to Trans Nzoia.
There, the opposition principals' motorcades were blocked, with the goons stoning and destroying some of the vehicles and beating some of the proponents.
Despite the setback, the team continued with their course, making it to Kimilili.
Reacting to the violent happenings, the opposition blamed Wetang'ula.
"What we witnessed in Chwele were the dying embers of the practice of primitive politics in Kenya. Mr Moses Wetang'ula, hear the people of Chwele, Western and Kenya clearly: The United Opposition won't be intimidated by your #WanTam sanctioned stone throwing goons. Not now, not today, not ever," said Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Later, DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala claimed there was an attempt on Gachagua's life.
Malala narrated that the goons targeted the position where Gachagua was seated.
According to Malala, the officers who were guarding them shot to scare the goons but ran out of rounds.
The goon sustained their aggression meanwhile; Malala claimed they were reinforced by plainclothes police officers.
The former Kakamega senator warned Ruto that any attack on Gachagua would not be wished away.
