We're monitoring all aspirants in the race - Justin Kodua declares

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has disclosed that the party leadership is actively engaging in behind-the-scenes interventions to manage tensions among presidential aspirants ahead of the January 2026 primaries.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over intra-party squabbles and public jabs between rival camps.

In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, 18 June, Mr Kodua addressed criticism that the party hierarchy was failing to rein in presidential hopefuls who have publicly criticised each other.

He emphasised that the lack of public censure should not be mistaken for inaction on the part of the leadership.

“That’s why we continue to caution personalities in the party. There are so many behind-the-scenes discussions and meetings and activities that go on.

"And you may not know the number of times that we have engaged certain personalities…how we’re able to prevent or even stop people from making certain comments and also how we’re even able to calm tempers in certain quarters,” he explained.

Mr Kodua further asserted that internal mechanisms are being utilised effectively to uphold discipline and unity, even if such efforts are not made public.

“The fact that I have not come out publicly to rebuke Mr. A or B doesn’t mean the party has not taken certain actions,” he added, underlining the party’s quiet but deliberate approach to conflict management.

The NPP is gearing up for a keenly contested flagbearer race, set for January 31, 2026, with several prominent figures in the running.
