Thinking about going to Boston on your next road trip? You might want to think again. Allstate released their 2025 America’s Best Drivers Report listing the 10 safest and 10 riskiest driving cities using data from auto insurance claims in the 200 most-populated U.S. cities.
The following cities have the safest drivers, defined as those who are least likely to experience a collision, ranked from one to 10.
The following cities have the riskiest drivers, defined as those who are most likely to experience a collision, ranked from 200 to 191:
Allstate launched America’s Best Drivers Report twenty years ago, and this year’s revision finds that seven out of the 10 riskiest driving cities are located in the Northeast, while three of the riskiest driving cities are on the West Coast.
Brownsville, Texas, the safest driving city, is not the only city in Texas to receive a favourable ranking. Laredo, McAllen and Corpus Christi are ranked among the top 20 safest driving cities while 21 cities in Texas have had their ratings increase over the past decade.
The average driver in the U.S. will experience a collision once every 10.56 years according to Allstate, and Boston, MA has a 244 percent relative collision likelihood (to the national average), with drivers only going 3.07 years between collisions on average. This abysmal ranking has remained the same since 2015. In contrast, drivers in Washington, Oregon and Alaska “are safer behind the wheel than they were a decade ago, with some of the largest reductions in collisions nationwide.”
Bellevue, Washington has earned the title of the most improved city, rising 133 spots since 2015. However, cities in the Midwest “have experienced significant declines in safe driving since 2015,” with St. Louis dropping 90 spots.
According to Allstate, the gap between the safest and riskiest cities is widening, and “Several cities among the 50 most collision-prone cities have seen more than a 25 percent increase in crash rates since 2015.”
The report included an additional 11 new cities: Gainesville, Fla.; Roseville, Calif.; Thornton, Colo.; Surprise, Ariz.; Visalia, Calif.; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Macon, Ga.; Denton, Texas; Enterprise, Nev.; Paradise, Nev. and Sunrise Manor, Nev.
