Security at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has been heightened in anticipation of a planned protest by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the premises.

The planned protest, announced by the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Salam Mustapha, is in response to the continued detention of the former National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) CEO, Abdul Hanan Wahab, who remains in EOCO custody following his arrest.

A video shared by Channel One TV on Monday, July 7, 2025, shows a police pickup vehicle loaded with barricades being offloaded, as police personnel mount the barricades at the entrance of EOCO’s head office.

The current scene at the premises appears calm, with little movement.

Abdul Hanan Wahab was arrested by EOCO on June 25, 2025, along with his wife. His arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related infractions during his tenure.

While his wife has since been granted bail set at GH¢30 million, Hanan remains in custody, having yet to fully meet the conditions of his GH¢60 million bail.

The party has since criticised EOCO for its actions, accusing it of using Wahab’s detention as a form of punishment.

Speaking on the party’s behalf, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, challenged EOCO to take Wahab to court if they believe he has committed any wrongdoing.

“So, he's been left there as punishment for exactly what we don't know. That's why I'm saying that if he has done something wrong, take him to court,” he added.
