Amber Portwood has been a staple on MTV’s Teen Mom franchise ever since she made her reality TV debut during season 1 of 16 & Pregnant. After her exit from Teen Mom: The Next Chapter was revealed in March 2025, fans are wondering if she quit or was fired from the show.

After rumors began to circulate that Amber had been fired from the show, she took to TikTok in March 2025 to shut down the rumors and confirm that her exit was on her own terms.

“Not only am I not being let go, I quit three days ago,” she said in a TikTok live video, according to People. “I told , the producer, I quit. My mental health was one of the things I said other than the yelling and crying from being so damn hurt from stuff.”

Amber went on to note that it was “so weird” that the rumor she was fired was circulating since the claims were only spread “through the grapevine.”

“You think this is going to be easy, with me going, after what’s going on?” Amber continued in the video. “You think I’m scared? Like, y’all know I ain’t got that kind of fear! They know that, not only do I not fear that, but I don’t care. How you gonna cancel somebody who doesn’t give a damn? You’re gonna cancel me? Because I already quit, so nice try guys. Nice try. I already got ahold of my agent.”

Despite Amber’s claims in the TikTok video, MTV has not publicly spoken out about her future on the show.

Not only did Amber claim she quit the show, but she also encouraged her longtime costar (née Lowell) to leave the reality series with her during the TikTok Live video.

Amber went on to argue that the show was extremely successful when it first began, which she said was due to her and the original cast. “We were like top three, top five out of all cable shows, out of ratings when we started,” she said of the early years of the show, according to The Ashley. “We’ve given so much to these people and you’re about to sit there and do that to me, and try to act like you’re dropping me? Y’all how many times have I tried to leave them?”

Amber made her reality TV debut during season 1 of 16 and Pregnant, which aired in 2009. She was expecting baby No. 1, daughter Leah, with then-boyfriend at the time.

She went on to continue documenting her life as a young mother on the franchise’s shows Teen Mom, Teen Mom: Family Reunion, Teen Mom: Girls’ Night In and Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

In addition to Leah, Amber also shares son James with ex , whom she welcomed in May 2018.
