Viola Davis Leads "House of Games" Remake
Actors Viola Davis (“The Woman King,” “The Help”) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Aquaman,” “The Matrix Revolutions”) are set to both star and produce a new take on David Mamet’s 1987 confidence scam-themed feature “House of Games” for Amazon MGM Studios.
Famed playwright and screenwriter Mamet wrote the original film which served as his directorial debut after breaking through on screen with the scripts for films like “The Verdict,” “The Postman Always Rings Twice” and “The Untouchables”.
The story followed psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse), who gets caught up in the world of gambling while trying to help one of her patients, Mike Mancuso (Joe Mantegna), deal with anxiety.
Mike Nussbaum, JT Walsh, Ricky Jay, Lilla Skala, William H. Macy, and Meshach Taylor co-starred.
The original film had a major fan in Roger Ebert who gave it 4/4, called it the best film of 1987 and included it in his “The Great Movies” publication.
The new take will be a reimagining of the project which is currently in developmnet through the actor’s respective production companies Juvee Productions and House Eleven10.
