KUCCPS 2025 University and College Placement Results Released

Hope and direction came knocking for thousands of hopeful students who sat their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in 2024, as the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially released the 2025 placement results for universities and colleges. This significant announcement was made on Tuesday, July 1, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, following the successful placement of over 310,000 students into various institutions and programmes nationwide.
Out of the 962,512 candidates who sat the 2024 national exams, 246,391 met the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, accounting for 25.3% of the total cohort. CS Ogamba confirmed that KUCCPS successfully placed 310,502 students. Specifically, 194,372 candidates who qualified for university admission secured spots in both degree and diploma programmes. The minister also noted that 201,695 students, representing 83% of those eligible, had actively applied for placement, assuring that available slots were sufficient to absorb both the 2024 candidates and those from previous years who had not yet secured admission. This move reaffirms the government's commitment to expanding access to higher and technical education, supporting the country's bottom-up economic transformation agenda by equipping the youth with practical and market-driven skills.
Students can confirm their 2025 placement results through two primary methods: online via the KUCCPS student portal or through SMS. To check online, students should visit the official KUCCPS website (students.kuccps.net), click on the “student portal” at the top right corner, and log in using their KCSE index number, year of exam, and either their birth certificate number or the KCPE index number used during KCSE registration. A congratulatory message will appear displaying the course and institution allocated if placed. For SMS, students can text their KCSE index number, starting with the year (e.g., 2024XXXXXXXX), to 20842. This is a premium SMS service with normal charges applying.
Once placement is confirmed, the crucial next step is to download the official admission letter from the KUCCPS student portal. This document is essential for enrollment and registration at the assigned institution. Students can achieve this by logging into the KUCCPS student portal, locating the “admission letter” section, and clicking to download and print the letter. The admission letter provides vital details such as reporting dates, fees, and other key information required to commence their academic journey.
The placement exercise also highlighted significant trends in programme demand. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba observed a sharp rise in demand for nursing programmes, with 27,000 applicants showing interest against a cumulative capacity of 2,986 slots, indicating a strong and growing interest in the medical field. There was also a surge in applications for teacher training diplomas following revised entry grades by the presidential working group on education reforms. KUCCPS received 20,786 applications for diplomas in teacher education against a capacity of 13,823, successfully placing 11,636 applicants. Of these, 10,800 were admitted to the diploma in primary teacher education, and 836 joined the diploma in secondary teacher education. Additionally, the introduction of the Kenya School of Law diploma in law on the KUCCPS portal attracted 500 applicants, demonstrating strong interest in legal studies. In the first phase, targeting Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, 93,207 applicants were placed in government TVET colleges, and 25,034 students were placed in KMTC programmes, including 6,750 who scored C+ and above in the 2024 KCSE examinations. Other KMTC programmes attracting large numbers included clinical medicine, surgery, medical emergency technician, and community health.
