Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus covering a major new order for 100 single-aisle A321neo aircraft, with the potential to add another 50 in the future.

The agreement was signed during the Paris Air Show by Vietjet CEO and , Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business.

“This new agreement marks a significant milestone in our strategic partnership with Airbus,” said Vietjet Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. “This landmark agreement represents a vital step in Vietjet’s growth strategy as a multi-national aviation group.”

Operating a fleet of more than 100 Airbus aircraft, Vietjet continues to expand its global network and fleet modernisation. The low-cost carrier’s expanding fleet underpins the airline’s growing network across the Asia-Pacific region and supports its plans to launch long-haul routes to Europe and the Americas in the near future.

The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’ best-selling A320neo Family, offering unparalleled range and performance. By incorporating new generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo brings a 50% noise reduction and more than 20% fuel savings and carbon dioxide reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft, while maximising passenger comfort in the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky.

VietJet’s latest deal comes only weeks after it ordered 20 A330neo wide-body airliners from Airbus.

VietJet operates an all-Airbus fleet, apart from two Chinese-made regional jets. The airline has not to date taken delivery of any of the around 200 MAX planes it has ordered from Boeing.

Airbus is the main supplier of jets to Vietnam, accounting for 86% of the planes currently operated by Vietnamese airlines.

Vietjet has also placed an order with Rolls-Royce for an additional 40 Trent 7000 engines to power 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft. This follows an order made last year at Singapore Airshow for 40 Trent 7000 engines, taking the order total to 80.

As part of the deal, Vietjet continues to select Rolls-Royce’s comprehensive TotalCare service to cover the health and maintenance of the engines.

Honeywell and Vietjet Air signed a five-year exclusive agreement for the maintenance of Honeywell’s 331-350 auxiliary power units (APUs) on the airline’s 30 Airbus 330 wide-body aircraft.

The new APU maintenance programme will help Vietjet boost operational efficiency, reliability and fleet readiness. The 331-350 APUs known for their durability and performance, offers critical support for power generation during ground operations.

Airbus has also announced a several deals on the first day at the Paris Airshow, the world’s biggest aviation trade fair that opened on 16 June.

The Vietjet deal came a day after Airbus announced orders for a total of more than 100 planes from Saudi companies Riyadh Air and AviLease and Polish airline LOT as reported by Reuters. Those deals were worth nearly $20 billion at 2018 catalogue prices.

At the end of May 2025, more than 7,000 A321neo aircraft have been ordered by over 90 customers across the globe.

As with all in-production aircraft, the A321neo is able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel, with a target to increase to up to 100% SAF capability by 2030.

Boeing is expected to have a more subdued show in Paris this year as it focuses on the probe into last week’s fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 and after it secured huge deals during President Donald Trump’s recent tour of the Middle East.

The orders included the largest widebody jet deal in Boeing’s history: Qatar Airways’ order for 130 787s and 30 777Xs, plus options for another 50 of the long-haul aircraft.
