Gachagua, who also served as the deputy president before his impeachment, accused the first in command of orchestrating insults against retired head of state Kenyatta through close allies such as Farouk Kibet and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.

"Ruto, you were the one who sent your surrogates like Farouk Kibet and Kimani Ichung’wah to insult our leader, Uhuru Kenyatta, our fourth president of Kenya. We want to tell you this, if you are a man, don’t send your surrogates to insult our leader, come and insult him yourself," he stated.

Speaking at a charged political rally at his Wamunyoro residence on Sunday, May 4, Gachagua claimed that despite welcoming the head of state respectfully during a recent visit, the president took advantage of the gesture to 'lie' to the people.

He alleged that Ruto used biblical references during the 2022 election campaigns to manipulate the region into turning against Uhuru, only for the community to later realise they had been misled.

The former lawmaker warned that if the attacks on Uhuru continue, he would instruct local youths to respond in kind the next time Ruto visits the region.

"Because I am a gentleman and respect your office, I instructed that no one insult you, and you came to talk to the people of the mountain, but you lied to them. Ruto, if you continue using youths to insult Uhuru, next time you come to the mountain, I will order the youths to turn against you," Gachagua vowed.

Gachagua, visibly emotional, expressed regret over how Mt. Kenya had treated Uhuru based on falsehoods, vowing that the region would no longer tolerate further attacks.

“We humiliated our son, but now we know the truth. From now henceforth, I must protect our leader. No more surrogates will come here to insult him,” he declared.

As he issued the warnings, opposition leaders and attendees rose to their feet, applauding him for his firmness and strong defence of the retired president.
