Veteran MCU Star Addresses Reprising Their Divisive Character in 'Avengers: Doomsday' & Beyond

Published 1 month ago3 minute read

With Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars looming on the horizon, almost every former MCU star is being asked if they will return for either or both movies. Gwyneth Paltrow is the latest former Marvel star to be posed the question, and the actress knows as much about her MCU future as we do. Paltrow starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man as Pepper Potts, Tony Stark's most trusted employee and advisor. Potts returned in both Iron Man sequels, and in The Avengers, Infinity War, and Endgame. But, the character hasn't been heard from since, and fans don't know if Potts will ever return to the MCU.

During a fan Q&A on Instagram (via Deadline), Gwyneth Paltrow was asked if she would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future to reprise the role of Pepper Potts. In a surprisingly honest and unfiltered Q&A, Paltrow revealed that her MCU future is uncertain and that it is all in the hands of Marvel Studios. "The truth is, I don’t totally know," the actress began. Paltrow believes Pepper Potts may have some future in an upcoming MCU movie, but she has no confirmation. "I think I might, but I’m not sure. Nothing is confirmed. That is the truth. That’s the inside scoop."

Gwyneth Paltrow was also asked about her relationship with her former Iron Man co-star, Robert Downey Jr. during the Q&A. In the past, rumors circulated that the pair had a falling out during production on Iron Man 3. However, the actress has repeatedly denied this and addressed how often she stays in touch with Downey Jr. in a separate answer video. "Not every day, but we talk a lot," she said to how often the pair talk. If Paltrow does return to the MCU, she'd be seeing a lot more of her former co-star, as Robert Downey Jr. will be one of the MCU's next big-bads, as he will be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

Fans were shaken when Marvel Studios announced that both the Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. would be making MCU comebacks for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. The former film will release on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following behind a year later on May 7, 2027.

Production on Avengers: Doomsday is set to begin next month. But, despite being so close to rolling its cameras, the official cast list for Avengers: Doomsday still remains a tightly guarded secret. Downey Jr.'s Victor Von Doom is one of the few characters confirmed to be a part of the film, and he will be joined by the MCU's new Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn). Benedict Cumberbatch also confirmed that he will star in the films in a past interview.

Meanwhile, there are characters, like Tom Holand's Spider-Man and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, who fans are expecting to appear in the movie. But, nothing has been confirmed by Marvel Studios yet.
