A Chief Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State, has sentenced a 28-year-old student of the University of Maiduguri, Lucky Sani and Gulak Talala of Ramat Polytechnic to three years imprisonment for operating an illegal gambling house.
Police prosecutor, ASP Musa Samuel, said the accused were arrested by a team of police officers attached to Gwange Police station on January 18, 2025, at about 8pm.
“While on the visibility patrol, Lucky Sani, 28, “Male” a student at the University of Maiduguri from Taraba State and Gulak Talala student of Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, were arrested around 202 Housing Estate, in Maiduguri.
“They were arrested with the following items; generator, nine desktops, three receivers and some printing slips which they used to operate an illegal gaming (gambling) house.
“And, they couldn’t give a satisfactory account of themselves when they were questioned by the police officers, Samuel said.
He said the accused committed an offence contrary to Section 60 and Section 176 (1ad) of the Borno State penal code law, 2023.
When the FIR was read to the accused, they all pleaded guilty as charged.
The presiding judge, Kolomi Ali, sentenced each of the accused to pay a fine of N75,000 with an option of three years in custody.
