Adamawa Launches Polio Vaccination Campaign Targeting 1.4 Million Children

The Adamawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ADPHCDA), with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has launched a polio vaccination campaign aimed at reaching 1.4 million children. The campaign was announced during the 2025 National Immunisation Day celebration in Malkohi, Yola South LGA.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Ibrahim Mijinyawa, the commissioner for Local Government Affairs, emphasized that healthcare is a priority for his administration. He urged traditional leaders to encourage parents and caregivers to present their children for vaccination, with the goal of eradicating polio from the state.
UNICEF Chief of the Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique, appealed to parents and caregivers to utilize the campaign as a crucial opportunity to eliminate polio. She affirmed UNICEF's commitment to collaborating with the state government to enhance the wellbeing of children in Adamawa and Nigeria, emphasizing the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
World Health Organisation (WHO) coordinator in Adamawa, Yusuf Abdulkareem, stressed the importance of taking every immunization exercise seriously to strengthen children's immunity. He also urged the government to increase efforts in combating malaria.
Zubairu Mustapha, the district head of Yola South LGA, expressed gratitude for the contributions of partners in the health sector and pledged loyalty to the state government in improving healthcare. He committed to intensifying efforts to sensitize his community to promote the wellbeing of their children.
