The Kano State Government has taken decisive action to address payroll irregularities, recovering over N27 million from 247 ghost workers for March 2025. These ghost workers included individuals who had either retired or passed away, yet were still receiving monthly salaries.

Musa Tanko, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, confirmed that those implicated in the fraudulent activity will face full legal accountability. The anomaly was detected during a validation exercise conducted by the Pay Parade Committee, which the state government established to scrutinize the payroll system.

According to Tanko, the committee promptly recovered the misappropriated funds and returned them to the Local Government Treasury. This action underscores the government's commitment to eliminating irregularities from the payroll system.

The Pay Parade Committee is set to commence operations, involving all relevant stakeholders to ensure a thorough review of the payroll system. An investigation will be launched to determine the full scope of the fraud and identify all individuals involved.

The government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf, has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding transparency, good governance, and responsible management of public resources. This effort to cleanse the state’s payroll system represents a significant milestone in reforming salary administration within the Kano State civil service.

The discovery of these irregularities highlights the administration’s unwavering commitment to entrenching governance, transparency, and responsible management of public resources. The government remains resolute in its commitment to purging the payroll system of irregularities. Individuals found to be involved in this fraudulent activity will be identified and held fully accountable in accordance with the law.
