Uttarakhand Establishes Mobile Network for Char Dham Yatra Devotees

The Uttarakhand government, under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, is dedicated to enhancing the Char Dham Yatra experience for devotees arriving from across the globe. As part of these efforts, the Uttarakhand government has established its own mobile network named "District Disaster Resource Network." This network is designed to operate continuously, especially during disasters or emergencies, and provides mobile data, voice calling, high-quality CCTV visuals, and WiFi facilities.

District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar of Rudraprayag district initiated this resource network to facilitate the Char Dham Yatra for devotees visiting the district. The network offers free WiFi to pilgrims. Chief Development Officer GS Khati explained that to access the WiFi, users must register their mobile number in the WiFi settings, receive an OTP, and then enjoy high-speed WiFi for half an hour. Following a successful trial, the facility has been made available to devotees, who have expressed their gratitude to the government and district administration.

Rudraprayag has become the first district in the country to have its own separate and complete mobile network. During a disaster on the Kedarnath footpath in July 2024, this network proved to be a lifeline when other mobile networks failed. It allowed travelers, laborers, and rescue teams to contact their homes and greatly aided relief and rescue operations.

The Char Dham Yatra 2025 officially commenced on April 30, with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham doors on Akshaya Tritiya, accompanied by Vedic chants and rituals. The doors of Kedarnath opened on May 2. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Kedarnath on May 2, distributing prasad to devotees at the Mukhya Sevak Bhandara. He emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring a safe journey for devotees by providing appropriate arrangements to prevent any problems.

CM Dhami stated, "Char Dham Yatra has started on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on 30th April...On May 4, the doors of Lord Badrinath Vishal will also open, and the yatra will start in full swing. We have tried to ensure that the journey of the devotees is safe and they do not face any kind of trouble during the journey, and for this, we have made appropriate arrangements." The doors of Shri Badrinath temple are scheduled to open on May 4. Over 22 lakh pilgrims have registered at the Rishikesh Transit Camp for this sacred journey.

The Hindu pilgrimage Char Dham circuit includes Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The River Yamuna originates from the Yamunotri Glacier in Uttarakhand. The pilgrimage season in Uttarakhand peaks annually during the summers for the Char Dham Yatra.
