US government agencies get special version of AI

Published 2 months ago1 minute read

(MENAFN) OpenAI has introduced a specialized version of its ChatGPT for US government agencies, providing a secure environment for handling sensitive information. Known as ChatGPT Gov, the platform utilizes the company's GPT-4o model, designed for tasks such as text interpretation, summarization, coding, image analysis, and mathematics. OpenAI's move comes in response to the rising competition from Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, which has gained significant attention for its cost-effective AI models.

Since January 2024, over 90,000 government employees across federal, state, and local agencies have made millions of queries using ChatGPT. The new platform will operate within secure government hosting environments, such as Microsoft Azure’s cloud servers, allowing agencies to meet their own security and compliance requirements.

While the platform promises to process sensitive, non-public data, it has yet to receive certification from the US government’s FedRAMP program. OpenAI remains confident that the infrastructure will accelerate the approval process.
