“Urgent! Let me go there!” Says Gwendolyn Davis Loyd, mother of Las Vegas Aces star, Jewell Loyd , after receiving heat from fans for posting on X her run-in with Indiana Fever guard, Sophie Cunningham.
She continued “I’m not going to entertain anyone who continues to blast and slam me for taking a picture with Sophia Cunningham- I have always been a supporter of Women Basketball and I will continue! I take optics with any player I want! Move on!”
Following a win away from home after the Fevers beat the Aces 89-81, the mother of the Aces star took the opportunity to have a quick snap with the Fevers player. Sophie Cunningham came from a not-so-remarkable performance in the city of lights, but did give a remarkable statement of fashion, turning up in her Tres Leches shirt.
The maternal Loyd was being called out by fans for a lot of reasons, particularly the way she looked and with how it seemed like she was trying to get cozy with the Indiana Fever faithful in the hopes of getting All-Star votes for her daughter by using her image with Sophie Cunningham.
She indicated on her post on X that she would stop giving more ammunition to bashers and naysayers by keeping mum. But this is no guarantee that those out to get her verbally would stop.

While the heat keeps spilling off court, Jewell Loyd and Sophie Cunningham will continue to take the fight to the board.
Tres Leches. The most prominent words are alongside a cartoon caricature of Sophie Cunningham with her two Indiana Fevers teammates, Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull. That’s what was on Sophie Cunningham’s shirt as she turned up at the T-Mobile Arena.
This appears to be another sign of solidarity with her teammates. It was only a few days ago when Sophie Cunningham was ejected from their clash against the Connecticut Suns after gaining a flagrant foul 2 against Jacy Sheldon.

The day before their Las Vegas face-off, Sophie Cunningham commented on her interview with The US Sun about officiating in WNBA games.
“I think the refs had a lot to do with that,” Sophie Cunningham states in reference to the altercation in their Suns game
“It was a build up for a couple years now of them not protecting the star player in the WNBA. And so at the end of the day, I’m going to protect my teammates, that’s what I do.”
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) celebrates a 3-pointer Saturday, June 14, 2025, during a game between the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty, 102-88.
Fans have been ultra supportive, not just of the creative shirt, but of Sophie Cunningham’s decision and stand in protecting her Indiana Fever teammates.
