Published 16 hours ago1 minute read

Environment Canada is updating the severe thunderstorm watch for the North Okanagan to a warning.

According to the meteorologists, the thunderstorm that is moving through Falkland is no longer considered severe.

However, at about 4:30 p.m. another storm has developed around 10 km northeast of Vernon and is moving to the northeast at around 30 km/h. This storm is expected to impact Lumby.

Multiple lightning strikes have been recorded in the Falkland, Armstrong and Lumby area on Tuesday afternoon.

Environment Canada is tracking the storm which is capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain.

The Central and South Okanagan remain under a severe thunderstorm watch.

More thunder, lightning, and rain could be on the way for the majority of the Okanagan.

At 11:12 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch from Falkland, south to Osoyoos, and west of Peachland and as far east as Cherryville. Salmon Arm, Sicamous, and Revelstoke are not currently under the watch.

The government weather agency proceeded with the watch as conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and possibly hail.

"When thunder roars, go indoors," stated Environment Canada.
