Unseasonal April rain brings hill station vibes to Nagpur

Nagpur: The city woke up to a hill station-like feel on April 3, as slow and steady rains created a rare, pleasant atmosphere in the middle of summer. While April showers accompanied by thunder and heavy downpours are common, the gentle drizzle and continuous light rain throughout the day was an unusual and refreshing phenomenon. It felt more like the monsoon season rather than the peak of summer, bringing much-needed relief to residents battling rising temperatures over the past few weeks.
The city had recorded 1.1mm rainfall up to 8.30am, and by evening, the total had climbed to 6mm. The impact of this rain was clearly visible in the temperature readings — Nagpur's maximum temperature plummeted to just 26.6°C, marking a massive 12.8°C drop compared to normal levels. This unexpected dip turned an otherwise warm April day into one of the coolest in recent memory. The minimum temperature stood at 22°C, maintaining the overall pleasantness of the day.
Apart from the cool and refreshing weather, the rainfall also increased humidity levels, reaching 74% by evening. While this added some moisture to the air, the cloud cover and light breeze prevented it from becoming uncomfortable. Overall, the city enjoyed a rare April day that felt more like a monsoon preview than the onset of peak summer.
The weather shift was not limited to Nagpur, as several districts across Vidarbha also witnessed rain and a significant drop in temperatures. The most notable change was observed in Bhandara, which recorded 5mm rainfall, leading to a sharp decline of 10.6°C in the maximum temperature. Buldana experienced 10mm of rain, which cooled the region further, while Yavatmal recorded 2mm, enough to bring down the maximum temperature by 3.6°C.

Meanwhile, Gondia and Brahmapuri saw some of the most drastic temperature falls in the region. Gondia's maximum temperature dropped by 9.2°C, while Brahmapuri recorded a 7.3°C dip, making it one of the coolest places in Vidarbha for the day. Even traditionally hot cities like Chandrapur and Gadchiroli saw a reduction in temperature, though their conditions remained relatively warmer than the rest of the region. The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, and Washim in the next few hours.
